Mercury Transit

11 November 2019

On November 11th, Mercury passed between the Sun and the Earth. Since Eric was off work, he went to the Howard Astronomical League's party at Alpha Ridge Park and set up his telescope.

They aren't great pictures. They were taking by basically holding my iPhone against the eyepiece of my telescope.

Mercury is very small. You may not see it in the thumbnail pictures, but the high-resolution pictures should look a little better.

NEVER look at the Sun without proper eye protection. Commercial-grade sunglasses are NOT proper eye protection.

NEVER look at the Sun through a telescope unless that telescope is SPECIALLY DESIGNED for looking at the Sun.

The big orange ball is a (slightly distorted) Sun. At 9:00 (left side) is a small black dot. That's Mercury.
